Welcome

Welcome to the Estyn Llaw website. Estyn Llaw can provide advice, support and training for voluntary and community organisations to enable them to increase their use of Welsh. The Scheme is also responsible for raising awareness amongst Welsh speakers of formal volunteering opportunities in organisations where there is a shortage of bilingual volunteers. Estyn Llaw’s work forms part of a broader agenda to ensure that the public is offered an effective Welsh-language choice in every aspect of life in Wales.

Since its establishment in 2000 by Iaith Cyf.– a company providing language planning consultancy services – Estyn Llaw has grown and expanded. An initial pilot scheme was launched in the Ceredigion area to respond to the need of voluntary organisations for support in the development of bilingualism and to bridge the gap between some organisations and Welsh speakers. The Scheme has been expanded since and is operational throughout West Wales. The Scheme now operates on a national level and there is a rising demand for its services.

“ Estyn Llaw provides a very valuable service for the voluntary sector. The Scheme’s success makes an important contribution towards increasing language choice in Wales.” .” Gareth Ioan, Chief Executive, Iaith cyf.
