Save the Children
The aim of the project was to increase the social use of the Welsh language amongst young people by holding a series of Welsh workshops for adults - facilitated and run by young people - regarding the best ways to support and include children and young people within organisations and activities. The project included adapting the participation pack 'Young People Say', as well as training and empowering young people to deliver the pack through the medium of Welsh.
Cruse - Carmarthenshire
Promoting and advertising Cruse's Welsh medium bereavement care service in Carmarthenshire was the aim of their project. The 'Papurau Bro' were used to try to increase the use made of the counselling and support services through the medium of Welsh.
Community Development Cymru
Developing and adapting a series of Community Development 'taster session' training resources, in order to mainstream linguistic and cultural considerations. Rather than translating the packs into Welsh, the principles of bilingualism and bi-culturalism were incorporated into 14 English language packs, with an additional resource created that dealt specifically with working bilingually.
South and West Wales Wildlife Trust
Creating a strong cultural identity within the trust, and increasing the skills and confidence of the workforce in order to enable and empower them to make greater use of Welsh in the workplace, and with visitors: • Increasing understanding of bilingualism and bi-culturalism, creating an unique 'sense of place' for the public; • A greater emphasis on reaching Welsh speakers when recruiting staff, using the 'Papurau Bro' and Welsh language weekly publications; • A specific campaign to recruit bilingual volunteers by proactively visiting Welsh medium groups such as Merched y Wawr and the Urdd; • An open day for potential volunteers, with an emphasis on the opportunies that exist for people to make use of any language skills they may possess.
Mantell Gwynedd
Supporting voluntary organisations in Gwynedd to use Welsh with confidence. Ensuring the continuation of the use of the Welsh language within local community groups by giving members the skills and tools necessary to use Welsh whilst welcoming learners to become involved.
North West Wales Samaritans
Establishing a dedicated Welsh medium telephone line with the aim of expanding the service to the whole of Wales eventually. Recruiting and training Welsh speaking volunteers, and fluent learners in order to answer calls. Increasing engagement by Welsh speakers and increasing the awareness of the Welsh medium line, thereby increasing its use.
Headway
Increasing the understanding of the significance of language when dealing with brain injury survivors, their families and carers. Using case studies as part of a DVD for practitioners working in this field.
VAMT
Working in partnership with the local Menter Iaith in order to promote volunteering opportunites available for Welsh speakers and learners. Encouraging local voluntary groups to create specific volunteering opportunites for Welsh speakers and learners. Creating volunteering opportunites that promote the history and heritage of the area.
Types of themes which are unlikely to be successful:
• Applications which mainly concern the translation of written material are unlikely to be accepted. • Applications which place too much emphasis on 'internal' administrative elements are unlikely to be accepted. The Fund is searching for projects which aim to create a positive impact on users and the service's beneficiaries. • Applications which mainly concern lessons and training for staff and/or volunteers are unlikely to be accepted.
