Welcome to the Estyn Llaw website. Estyn Llaw, which roughly translates as 'helping hand' is available to offer practical support and advice to voluntary and community groups wishing to increase their use of Welsh in order to be able to offer service users a comprehensive language choice.

The Estyn Llaw scheme was established in 2000 as a pilot project in west Wales in order to bridge the gap that was developing between voluntary service providers and Welsh speakers. By now Estyn Llaw works with organisations in all parts of Wales and beyond. The scheme is mainly funded by the Welsh Assembly Government through the Welsh Language Board, as well as by some local authorities. The scheme is administered by IAITH – welsh centre for language planning, from the head office in Newcastle Emlyn.

Estyn Llaw works with voluntary organisations, community development groups and language planning groups, such as Community Development Cymru, the County Voluntary Councils, the County Volunteer Centres, the Communities First Support Network and the Mentrau Iaith (language initiatives)

"The Estyn Llaw scheme provides a very important service to the voluntary sector. The success of the scheme makes an important contribution to increasing language choice in Wales." Gareth Ioan, Chief Executive of Iaith cyf.
